Marcel te Brake, a passionate photographer, is born in the municipality of Aalten in 1968. He has undertaken a fascinating journey through the world of photography.

Although his interest in photography only blossomed around the age of 35, his commitment to the profession has undergone a remarkable development. After completing his training in special education, Marcel found a job caring for people with intellectual disabilities in Haarlem. There he met his wife. Both discovered their shared passion for traveling. During these trips, Marcel often acted as a photo subject while his wife operated the camera. Fate struck when his beloved wife became seriously ill and finally died.

This tragic loss led to a turning point in Marcel’s life. Driven by memories of his wife, Marcel took her analog camera and began experimenting with photography himself. After some time, he developed a new passion for capturing in pictures moments and emotions.

In 2005 he returned to his birthplace Aalten, where he further developed his knowledge of photography. Marcel soon discovered his love for portrait photography, with preference for controlled environments. After a short time as a photographer in Winterswijk, he decided to open his own studio in Lichtenvoorde together with a photographer colleague. His talent as a portrait photographer became well-known and he had much work.

Although the Corona pandemic temporarily hampered his work, thanks to an exemption, Marcel was allowed to continue his work as a photographer, although mainly in fashion photography. An interesting twist came when a photography school was looking for an internship for a student. Marcel, always ready for creative solutions, welcomed the intern into his studio and enabled her to compleet her hours by freelance work.

Marcel gets a lot of inspiration from the forums of various photographers and social media, but he also likes to be challenged by his models’ ideas. Depicting human beauty and emotions brings him great joy, especially when there is a strong emotional connection between the model and the photographer.
